ringling museum of art. part one.

Hi friends,

While my mom and I were in Sarasota last week, we visited the The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art. It was the best decision we made all weekend! The museum is one of the prettiest places I have been in Florida. I'm gong to share with you a little history about this place so when you and your family decide to visit you can impress them with your facts.

In 1925, the construction of John and Mable Ringling's mansion was completed allowing them to reside there in the winter months. A few years later, their extensive art and sculpture collection was made into an art museum on the same property. The grounds of their estate include their beautiful home that sits on the edge of the Sarasota Bay, a rose garden planted by Mable Ringling in 1913, a secret garden, the coolest banyan trees I've ever seen, and the world's largest miniature circus! It was a very fun place to visit and naturally I took a few too many pictures so they will show up here in installments.

Side note and fun fact: In 2000, Florida State University (go noles!) was given responsibility of the museum.

Here we go!

just in time.

Hi friends,

Mom and I made it just in time to eat dinner and watch the sunset on Siesta Key beach last night. The beach is one of the most calming and beautiful places to be. We're not sure how the weather is going to be the rest of the weekend but we are good at finding a fun adventure. Here are a few snapshots of the beautiful sunset last night.

diy: polka dot punch art.

I like to call this the easy peasy polka pleasy!! Mostly because I think the word polka is a great word and this is an easy project. This is what you do: First, get inspired by something pretty. i.e. this kate spade bracelet that can be found on pinterest but is no longer available for purchase. Second, follow these steps:

1. Buy some pretty paper from hobby lobby. Specifically right now because it's on sale.
2. Punch it out using a handy dandy circle puncher ( mine was 3/4 inch ).
3. Use a good glue, spray adhesive or gel medium to adhere your dots to the canvas. Anything sticky will probably work just fine. Not chewing gum, chewing gum would be gross and germy. I painted a thin layer of gel medium on the canvas and did a random design.
4. Place it on a shelf next to something pretty. Or place it on a shelf next to something ugly and let it be the star of the show.

Enjoy this little creation.

2011, it's been real.

Its New Year’s ever!! Do you know what that means? It’s time to sparkle.

Last resolution of 2011: wear whatever makes you feel sparkly.
Whether its sequins, glitter, shimmery shimmer or cotton pjs..rock it out.

Glitter is a very pretty substance, it may even be the prettiest, but there is no denying that it is kind of pain to clean up. It goes everywhere and you never really get all of it. But today...today is New Year’s Eve and it's worth it. Get out the glitter. Throw it in the air, love every last minute of 2011 & have a happy new year, friends!

glory in the sunshine state

I miss the Florida sunsets.

The coast of Florida is home to beautiful sunsets all the time but this one seemed to be particularly great. I was driving home by myself and couldn't help but try to take pictures as I drove. Eventually I decided it would be a real tragedy if I got into an accident because I was trying to capture this beauty. Accidents are ugly and this was the opposite of ugly. So I pulled the car over and got out. It was lovely. Peaceful. Inspiring.

Pretty Young Thing

Hey there. Saturday's are great. You know what else is pretty great? The Food network. The Food network on Saturday, it's wonderful. Oh, and this outfit would be super for a Saturday too.

As summer approaches, I am looking forward to lots of sun dressesbig totes and bright nail polishes.
Here in Florida, we get a ton sunshine during the summer but we also get frequent afternoon showers. This cute red umbrella would be a great investment for those rainy days!

My summer officially starts in one week and I can't wait. Did I mention that I am also graduating from college in a week? If anybody wants to supply future-real-world me with these lovely sunglasses, we would be best friends.

Hope you enjoying your Saturday!
